Can anyone identify this melody/song?

Postby Fenrik » 01 Apr 2017, 15:21

This might be a bit morbid but I was watching a really good and moving Norwegian documentary and there was a funeral where they played this music
during the funeral march. I´ve heard before but I just can´t remember from where! And it´s really beautiful!

Anyone else heard this?

Yes, Pie Jesu from Andrew Lloyd Webber's 'Requiem'. Lloyd Webber is best known for his musicals, but following the death of his father he wrote a requiem as a tribute, this still draws upon some of the more popular musical influences that he's known for, but reflects a more traditional or classical approach. Like you, I'm not a Christian, or even religious, but it is a very beautiful piece of music, glad you've been enjoying it!

Yeah, I love it now!

I`ve even bought two different versions from iTunes.
I like it best without vocals. ;)

This is Sissel Kyrkjebø. Norways finest vocalist! She´s released a ton of music. She was supposed to sing My Heart Will Go On for Titanic, but 20th Century Fox decided in the end to give to a more famous artist (celine dion). But she ended up doing all the other vocal parts for the score that James Horner made. She also did Ariel for all the Scandinavian versions of The Little Mermaid. ;)

Oh and dont forget this 90s classic! :D
