It's a shame such processed shite is so popular. She doesn't even sound like herself on this because her vocal has been so edited. I'm sure I'll like it in a few weeks but first listen hasn't grabbed me.

Here's an update on Rihanna's 2016 single releases, in the UK charts:

'Work' [Rihanna feat. Drake]

'Work' is the 5th most successful single of 2016 so far, with combined sales of 875,000 to date (platinum). It shouldn't struggle to make it to a million units. Her previous million sellers are: 'We Found Love', 'Love The Way You Lie', 'Only Girl (In The World)' & 'Diamonds'.

This never quite got going, such a shame. :( It's been majorly overshadowed by 'Work' still riding high, and her collaborations. This peaked at #30 in the "sales only" chart. Streaming has let this song down slightly, peaking at #53 in the streaming chart. 'Kiss It Better' can't seem to crack the daily UK Spotify Top 50, which would be very beneficial for its visibility on Spotify. // Approximately 142,000 units to date.

Rather slow progress for this too, although it's building up a pretty lengthy run! Conversely to 'Kiss It Better', this didn't do very well in terms of the "sales only" chart (peak of #74, and not currently within the Top 100), however it has performed better in the streaming chart, with a peak of #38 so far. Streaming units are dominating over sales now, hence why it's charting higher than 'Kiss It Better' in the official chart currently. // Approximately 145,000 units to date.

A very impressive run so far! In the two weeks at #2 it was held off by Drake's 'One Dance', and in the four weeks at #3 it's been behind that and Justin TImberlake's 'Can't Stop The Feeling!'. 'TIWYCF' is midweek #4 this week. 515,500 sales to date (gold). I think it's inevitable that this will end up being another million seller for Rihanna.

Another Top 10 hit, and looking set to move up to #5 this week. This has out-peaked the previous "Drake feat. Rihanna" collaboration 'Take Care', which reached #9 in 2011. 'Too Good' has sold almost 208,000 so far - yet another certified single for Rihanna (silver).

Rihanna could've totally released a more pop-oriented album. Though it would've been a mess, style-wise, I think I would've preferred it over Anti.

I would have loved to see this happen. ANTI has some good songs. I just wish James Joint and Goodnight Gotham were longer, proper songs. It's Birthday Cake all over again.

'Work' has now sold over a million units in the UK (1,002,932). Download sales provide 301,847 of this figure. 701,085 is derived from streaming data (Source: Music Week / Official Charts Company). It's her 5th million seller. It's still well within the Top 100: 13-4-4-3-2-2-3-5-6-6-8-10-10-13-16-18-22-22-23-23-31-35-35-35-41-47-55-59-59...

I estimate that 'This Is What You Came For' is on 923,000 units to date. It's now spent an impressive 15 weeks within the UK Top 10: 2-2-3-3-3-3-4-4-4-4-7-7-8-7-10... so a million total units is probably achievable in 3 weeks time at most. It'll be her 6th million seller therefore. 'Umbrella' will be pushed down to being her 7th highest placed single of her career.

'Too Good' is now certified platinum, around 612,000 units to date. Another very strong chart run, with 13 weeks inside the Top 10 so far and a peak of #3: 41-23-8-6-7-6-5-5-3-3-6-6-10-8-8... / Perhaps another million seller is on the cards?

She's still not immune to some misses. 'Sledgehammer' only managed to peak at #69.

Rihanna used to be the Queen of download sales in the UK, but with that market now dying off, she has made a very successful leap to streaming! It does feel a bit weird to me that a single has "million selling" status with only 300k purchases, but this is going to become a more common occurrence and it seems inevitable that actual sales will contribute less & less as time goes by.
