The album is mastered. They haven't decided a title yet. Today (Tues) they are shooting the artwork.

The first two tour dates have been announced...lucky Russia!

11 tracks on the album, not bad i suppose seeing as we always get a ton of b-sides!

Cant wait for the album title, cover art, single choice, video premiere!!!

What a great way to end the year!

Garbage drummer Butch Vig says the band's still-untitled fifth album is complete and will likely be released in late April or early May. The new set-which he says conjures dark vibes reminiscent of Garbage's first two albums, 1995's self-titled debut and 1998's "Version 2.0" - will be released on the band's own label, whose tentative name is Stun Volume.

"We got some offers from some majors, but at this point I feel it's better for us to control exactly what we want to do and not have to deal with any other corporate decisions," says Vig, whose other bandmates are vocalist Shirley Manson, bassist Duke Erikson and guitarist Steve Marker. Garbage's last album, 2005's Bleed Like Me (Almo Sounds/Geffen/Interscope), debuted at No. 4 on the Billboard 200 and has sold 284,000 copies, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

Vig says that songs on the new album feature elements of electronica, big beats, noisy guitars, punk riffs and atmospheric film moments. "When we started recording last February, we embraced who we are," he says. "We have an identity when the four of us make music together, and I think these days it's good to have a strong identity."

Shirley is an idiot but wow, the new stuff sounds good! Very raw, very 'them', unlike the crap they released in the early 00s.

I have to say I only know their singles and the Version 2.0 album, and the stuff they released in the 90s was fantastic. Then they had that weird, cheap phase in the early 00s but then came back with nice stuff again, or at least I loved Tell Me Where It Hurts.

Yes, I know hat you mean. I think beautifulgarbage was a little too 'beautiful' and not enough 'garbage' but, from all the previews so far, they seem to be back on top of their game. Cannot wait!

I love 2.0 and I love beautifulgarbage. I think they're both amazing, different but very Gabage-ish albums. beautifulgarbage was maybe popier than 2.0 but I loved it. I didn't like anything else they released after that though, so maybe I'm a fan of the not-so-dark-and-alternative band afterall :P

I think, for me, I wasn't expecting beautifulgarbage to be so 'pop' after some of the noise on 2.0 and, when I heard it, I was disappointed with it. I think that was also the consensus amongst the fans at the time and partly contributed to the bands decision to tour beautifulgarbage as a Greatest Hits tour with more of their back catalogue than that particular album?

I've never understood why so many don't support Bleed Like Me though. Maybe because their production was more understated and less prominent than on previous records? I quite enjoy it.

From all accounts the new album is going to be their loudest "noise" to date :p

Bleed Like Me is my favorite Garbage album! I like Beautiful Garbage, but it really is too pop for them. I like them raw. However Version 2.0 does have a special place in my heart. I literally grew up with it. UGH I need their new album NOW.
