Predict the chart position!

Postby Fenrik » 15 Jun 2017, 00:12

To me it doesn´t really matter that much (all though a #1 would of course be amazing!!  :D ) but it would be fun
to guess the chart position and see if any of us gets it right!

This is JUST for fun! And this thread is supposed to be a happy thread. Just the thought of being able to predict a Geri Halliwell chart
position in 2017 is amazing and a thing I started to fear we would never be able to do ever again.

No bickering in this thread! :nono:

So what are your thoughts? Guess!

I have hopes for a top 20 position. Would be great (for her sake as well) that it did better than Desire.

I predict a #18 position

If it was the pre streaming era I'd be much more optimistic but just look at how streaming messed up Steps single which was only top 40 but in actual sales would've been top 10.

Really have no idea what to expect but hope for a position much much higher than Half Of Me and that she makes a decent amount of money for child line.

My current feeling is that I'd be quite surprised if the song manages to even make the Top 200 at all, given that she's only giving herself 4 days of eligible sales rather than 7! So sadly that's my prediction: "did not chart".I hope I'll be proved extremely wrong, of course!

Spoiler: show
It varies from week to week, but roughly speaking I think she'd need to sell at least 3,000 copies to go Top 200 / 5,500-6,000 for Top 100 / 15,000-16,000 for Top 40 / 20,000-25,000 for Top 20 / 30,000-35,000 for Top 10.

For her to even make it into the official Top 20, she'd more than likely need to make it to #1 on iTunes. Official Top 40 would require 4 days of her being comfortably within the iTunes Top 10. If she managed to spend a couple of days within the iTunes Top 25, that might be enough for her to dent the Top 200.

This might seem quite shocking, but the simple fact is that streaming is more dominant than sales in the UK. Geri's streaming will be minimal without playlist exposure (she won't be getting added to the New Music Friday Spotify playlist because she's taken it upon herself to release on a Monday :p ).

The charts are so messed up these days does anyone even pay any attention to them? The same songs stay in the Top 40 for months because they're on the "compilation" playlists on Spotify and people just play them over and over again. Videos, tv performances etc just don't make the impact they used to years ago so I see why people don't bother with them!

I'm not expecting much at all tbh, but I hope she just goes for it after this and releases as much as she wants regardless of chart positions. I hope watching Melanie C has inspired her!

It will not chart "for sure" because it's out on Monday.

No ideia, but I feel like it's gonna be a massive flop :v

Either way I'm happy to get a new song. Fingers crossed for a new video and a couple of live performances.

Hopefully the promo machine hits hard on Monday. If she releases it without any tv, radio, online promotion, her days as a signed recording artist will be numbered.

I actually don't understand what she's doing. I mean, she's not promoting it or anything. She can't just sit down and expect the single to do well.

She's been doing interviews today which will likely come out next week after the premiere. After the song airs on monday she'll probably do more promo, I guess. Hopefully we get some performances and a video.

Does she have an official YouTube channel? If so, she should definitely upload the song there on Monday, either just the audio with a picture of the single cover or a cheap lyric video. Then release the music video and upload it to her channel when it's ready.

I'm predicting top 20 as hopefully George's fans will support the song because it's in memory of him, and has his collaborators involved. It'll be nice if it goes top 10 but I don't think it will.

It would be nice if there was a limited number of physical singles available through her website or something, but I suppose it's easier to release it digitally when it's for charity to keep costs low.

Releasing it on Monday can only be because they think having the premier on chris evans show is a big promo slot, which it isn't. So with that in mind the upcoming promo will probably be shit and the lack of 7 days first week means it probably wont chart.

I doubt it will reach Top 200. Melanie C couldn't do it even with BBC Radio 2 support.
